Period Pain Treatments

Period Pain Treatments And Causes

No two women experience periods in the same way, so it is often very difficult to make people understand that yours is particularly painful or uncomfortable.

If you are currently suffering from an unusually painful period, known as dysmenorrhea in the medical industry, or you regularly experience extreme discomfort and you feel that now is the time to seek severe period pain treatment, Gyneaesthetics London is here to help you.

Most women experience extreme period pain at some point in their life. It is very common and is a typical part of your menstrual cycle. Usually, women get sharp, painful stomach cramps which can sometimes be felt in the back. The cramps can vary, sometimes coming as a constant pain while other times coming in irregular spasms. Sometimes the cramps are accompanied with headaches, nausea and bloating. These types of symptoms are commonly associated with what is known as primary dysmenorrhea.  One month you may experience particularly bad period pain while the next month you may not have any pain at all. It can vary quite drastically from month to month.

Painful Periods

Causes

Although it quite uncommon, severe period pain might occur due to a medical condition. Usually, if there is an underlying medical condition which is causing period pain it will occur in women aged between 30 and 45 years old. Period pain which is caused by another condition is classed as secondary dysmenorrhea.

Medical conditions which can cause period pain include:

  • Fibroids – a non-cancerous growth in your uterus than can cause painful, heavy periods
  • Endometriosis – tissue and cells normally found in the uterus (or womb) begin to grow in other parts of the body like the ovaries or the fallopian tubes
  • Adenomyosis – where the tissue lining the womb breaks into the womb wall, this can also result in heavy periods.
